JKA Aggey Foundation celebrates Family Day 2024

The Ave Maria Society of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos and  The JKA Aggey Foundation celebrated the Archbishop JKA Aggey Family Day 2024, on Saturday, 24th of August 2024, at St Michael’s Catholic Church, Ilogbo -Eremi, Oko -Afo, by Lagos -Badagry Expressway, Badary, Lagos State, Nigeria.

The friendly, warm and joyful parishioner of St Michael’s Catholic Church, Ilogbo -Eremi, Oko -Afo, began to welcomed all the arrived members of Ave Maria Society across the Archdiocese of Lagos as early as 7:OO am and also the Oko -Afo community in general, with large number of people heading to the church.

The celebration started with a Mass by the Ave Maria Society Chaplain, Fr Christopher Atoyebi. During the homily, he emphasized the role of family, its importance to the development of society, and encouraged members of the need for sacrifice in the family, always for the betterment of humanity

There was a zonal Thanksgiving by all the Ave Maria Society’s nine zones and the Archbishop JKA Aggey Foundation. The reception of the day’s celebration follows, with the President of the Ave Maria Society, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Mr Joseph K John with gratitude to God Almighty welcomed all presents and the host community, relatives, friends, guests and well-wishers and quickly followed by welcomed dances by the children of Ave Maria Society and cultural dance displayed

There was a Quiz Competition, a Scripture Search (Surgery), and a Cultural Dance Competition. These were the details of the activities as follows:

For Quizs Competition
Zone 2= 12 points
Zone 4= 21 points
Zone 6= 24 points
For Surgery ( Scripture searching)
Zone 2 = 6 points
Zone 4 = 12 points
Zone 6 = 0 point
For Cultural Dances
Zone 2 = 64:3%
Zone 4 = 34:%
Zone 6 = 69:4%
Zone 7 = 42:7%

The Chairman of the celebration, Chief Dr Eugene Nweke, the First Vice President of the Parish Pastoral Council of St Michael’s Catholic Church Ilogbo -Eremi, Oko -Afo, and he is the Gbeobaniyi of Ilogbo -Eremi Kingdom, Oko -Afo, by Lagos -Badagry Expressway, Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria. He presented trophies and gifts to the winners and cash awards to the children who participated in the Quiz Competition and Surgery (Scripture searching)

The team of Dzagh Agnes from St Bridges Catholic Church, Ijeshatedo, Surulere, Lagos, representing Zone 6, won the trophy with a cash sum from the Chairman of the occasion. Ruth John from St Andrews Catholic Church, Seme, Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria, representing Zone 4 was the champion for the surgery competition of 2024 Archbishop JKA Aggey Family Day and received the trophy with cash reward from the Chairman of the day.

This year Cultural Dance Competition was keenly contested by the four zones that participated, with zone 6 performing better than the others with great dancing skills and excellent movement, stepping with colorful attire.

The Judges for this year’s competitions were Mr Damazoo Simeon from St Anthony Catholic Church, Itele, Ogun State, Nigeria. Mr David Akakpo from St Leo Catholic Church, Ikoga Zebee, Badary, Lagos State, Nigeria, and Imoleayomaria Obi Anthony, the Administrator of Archbishop JKA Aggey Foundation, with Mr Olumide Osomo from Archbishop JKA Aggey Foundation as the Scores Master or Board man.

Mrs. S. Kadiri from Archbishop JKA Aggey Foundation distributed some sanitary pads to ladies and women to help encourage sound health and cleanliness. The foundation distributed fliers, ICE materials on Lagos Child Rights Law to many people, some literature on the Catholic faith was available to support, and encouraged members of Ave Maria Society to know the faith and keep living the faith.

The day’s ceremony truly demonstrated a big sense of family affair with calm weather, plenty of food, drinks, and colourful traditional dresses, attires, and styles showcased.
